As Good as Gold!!

2008 Silver Medalists! YES! YES! AND YES! That is all I can say....FINALLY! Finally we got what we deserve, A MEDAL. I do not care if it was brown with flies on it, as long as it was a medal. We worked so hard, went through so much and came through when it counted. We were the underdogs going into the Quaterfinals against the Italians, down 2-1, yet we won a 5 game nail biter. Then, went up against the Cubans in the Semifinals who had beaten us 3-0 pretty badly just a week before. I guess you can say we returned the favor when it counted. Then came the Finals. Against undefeated Brazil who had not lost a match nor game the entire Olympics. No matter what, we were going to medal, but we wanted that Gold. Though we fell short, we did manage to take a game off of them, something no other team had done. So much hype is put into a Gold Medal. When you fall short it seems like you have failed, you didn’t win the Gold so you have won nothing. Yes, we wanted to raise our flag higher than all three flags. Yes, we wanted to hear our Star Spangled Banner. Yes, we wanted a Gold Medal placed around our necks. But we simply got second place. Yes. Second. But our flag got raised second highest. We got Beautiful Silver Medals placed around our necks. We stood tall on a medal stand that had not seen Americans for 20 years. We are now among only 24 American Volleyball players to ever accomplish such a feat. I got to stand there with my sisters, my friends, my family and celebrate a moment that few people will ever experience. Yes we lost to Brazil. But we won a Silver Medal. ...and to us Silver is “as good as Gold.”
Since volleyball is the one of the only sports that goes from start to finish in the Olympics, there was no time to go and sight see or see other events. We were fortunate to have televisions in our common area so that we could watch all other sports going on during our off time. I did get to experience the Great Wall. It was beautiful and such an amazing thing to actually see with my own eyes. I could not believe that each one of those bricks was hand laid by Chinese people. Incredible. We took a lift up, walked a portion of the wall, returned and then got to toboggan down. It was so fun. Although this was the only "sight seeing" I was able to do, it was totally worth it.
Sooooo, after we returned to American soil, all of the Olympic Medalist were invited to Chicago to film Oprah’s season premier. It was so great! We stayed at the Hilton in downtown Chicago and rode on Chicago Double Decker buses, into Millenium Park, where we were greeted by hundreds of screaming fans. We then filmed the show, got to meet Oprah, took pictures with her and then all went our separate ways. It was great to see, talk and hang out with other Olympic medalists. I also got to give Oprah a big hug that was pretty dope. Since Volleyball is one of the only sports that goes from start ‘til finish in the Olympics, there was no time to go and sight see or see other events. We were fortunate to have televisions in our common area so that we could watch all other sports going on during our off time. I did get to experience the Great Wall. Well, that is all for now. I am taking some time off, traveling around, seeing friends and family. It has been a little bit hectic recently but when it all calms down I looking forward to relaxing at home for a while. I am taking my life day by day so I have no idea what the next blog will consist of....until next time....

Hi Stacy. The best games were 2000 olympics. Love Jenny Ping. I think she is the best coach and Haley (2000 Olympics) that the USA volleyball has ever had. One question: Has anyone ever farted during a game? Have you or someone like Lindsey Berg, or Heather Bown ever walked up to a team mate and farted by them? Then just walk away? Silent ones are the best. I bet Hayneef lets out big loud farts, that sound like a duck.

To the last blogger Jennifer Barnes.Burleson is not a low income area so don't spat stuff like that. You are comparing apples to toyotas. I hope you are not the Jennifer Barnes class of 98 that is speaking. Stacy comes from a town full of pride and character and tradition. STACY, YOU ARE THE ONE WHOM PUT BURLESON ON THE MAP AND DON'T YOU EVER THINK OTHERWISE.

CONGRATULATIONS on your BIG win in the Olypics...GREAT job!I could only imagine just how busy you are, but, I am a girl's middle school volleyball coach in Irving, Texas and would absolutely LOVE it if you could take maybe one day to come out and talk to our girls (or even our entire school). I work in a predominantly low income area (which I'm sure you know since you are from Burleson), and you would be such an inspiration to not only our volleyball players but to all kids! I am probably just WISHING you could do it, but, it's worth a try! =-) Thanks for 'representing' in the olympics...you did the USA proud! Feel free to contact me ANYTIME at jbarnes@irvingisd.net. Thanks again!!! Jennifer

halo stacy; first of all, congratulations for your medal, especially because you deserve it, I don't know what is to have a great dream since childhood and make it true, I'm kind of lazy and I have commitment phobia, so most of the time I don't achieve goals, so I don't know what is like, I'm a big fan of volleyball unfortunately Mexico never qualifies for olympics the only time that I had the opportunity to watch a tournament was in 97 or 98 some juveniles Internationals teams came to tijuana, where I live, That's why I enjoy so much the olympics matches, unfortunately nbc didn't broadcast all your games, but the saturday that you play the final, early morning a mexican fighter of tae kwan do, make it to the final, so I stay awake at dawn and the mexican tv station broadcast the volleyball final of you vs. brasil, I really enjoy the match, I use to play volleyball but I'm too short 1.53 I think is 5'2" or somethig We, like short people should encourage federations to make two categories, one for people taller than 5'5" and one for people shorter than 5'5", most people in central, south america and asia are short, bring or take down the net 30 cm, and feel what is like to hit the ball in other's faces, I'm just kidding, well maybe it's not a bad idea, you know I'm impressed that we have a lot in common, I'm the younghest, I colect music too, I'm misunderstood, square, I like volleyball, and I like Harley Davidsons too, well, actually we have a big difference you have the money to buy one and I'm not, hopefully soon I can afford a fat boy, if one day you go to San Diego go to a place call Old Town, there's a restaurant COYOTE, you should eat there, fine mexican food, or you can go to EL TORITO, you are going to like it, hopefully if one day you have nothing to do, or have some spare time, could you put a photo of you, in your street bob, I'd love to see it, or send it to my e-mail incomprometida@live.com I'm having a hard time translating, I know you speak Italian and spanish so in spanish Yo creo que si tu hubieras sido la libero oficial o la titular hubieran jugado mejor, tienes mas experiencia que davis, pero ya nimodo, las fotos en tu blog estan muy, muy bonitas, tu tomas dia por dia, ojala que tu proximo dia sea muy bonito, y hagas otro blog, gracias por compartir tus experiencias con todos, te quiero mucho.
