Gooday Mates!!!!
by Tyra Turner

I'm working on new Australian words since I'll be spending my preseason in Sydney, Australia. 6 weeks in the land down under. No, you don't feel like your upside down and the toilet water doesn't go counter clockwise.
This year Rachel and I have hired a new coach. Her name is
Kerri Pottharst
and she's from... shocker Australia. For those of you who know beach volleyball history this should be a familiar name. She is a
3
time Olympian as well as a Gold and Bronze medalist. Yip, (that's Aussie for "yes") she captured a bronze in 1996 and a gold in 2000 on her home beach of Bondi. She has been a tremendous asset to our family. She brings experience, knowledge, and most importantly heart. Kerri also had the daunting task of qualifying for the 2004 Olympics in just 7 FIVB events. Sound familiar?????? That's just what Rach and I are trying to do....
So after a 14 hour flight we arrived to a warm summer day in Sydney, Australia. The town we suburb we lived in was called Manly. It was situated on the water, kinda like Hermosa is to LA. Breathtaking!!!! I'm sure my pictures won't do it justice. The water was perfectly clear, the waves tubular, and the sand clean and soft. We couldn't have asked for a more spectacular training area. The food was expensive, but worth every penny. Veggies
, fruit, meat, it was all so fresh! Rach is a spectacular cook, so I learned a lot from her. Together we made fresh healthy meals every night. Eggplant parmesan, pork tenderloin w/mango salsa, lemon chicken and plenty of other concoctions with really no right name. She taught me how to make home made salad dressings that rock. Never again will I have dressings out of a bottle. As soon as dinner was finished we popped in a movie. Never have I had the time to watch so many movies!!!! Being away from home provided a new luxury.
So 6 weeks away from my husband? Not going to happen. Chad made his way to OZ after about 2 weeks. He was lucky enough to stay for 16 days. It was great to see him. Our training schedule was 3 days on and one day off so we managed to squeak in a couple days of exploring together. We went to a Broadway play, the botanical gardens, Tooranga Zoo, Shelly Beach, and of course down town Sydney which was just a fairy ride away. I think Chad was content just surfing, but someone had to help me read the map right?
Stay tuned for results from our first 2 events.
Cheers, (Aussie for bye!)
All Smiles
Tyra

A few months ago, I ran into you and your husband in all places target in manhattan beach calif. It is so ironic I just finished helping my daughter with an assignment for school, blacks in pro volleyball. My daughter found alot of info on Flo Hymen? but really struggled to find others so I went to a couple of sites and saw you. My daughter is going to Pepperdine this fall and I think she has dropped volleyball as one of her interest, is it possible to obtain a calendar of your appearances in the southland, my daughter's name is Precious, thanks. Precious'dad Giraldo.

Hello Ma'am, Cool blog. Can Australians tell and spell the difference between "your" and "you're"? Or are they blind to this like Americans as well? (Hint, hint!)
