Champion Drills
by: J. Frizzell

The key to winning - everyone knows - is practice. Here are a few exercises that will help develop a team of misfits into champions, building skills into the players that they will use for a long time.

A BLOCKING DRILL:
Start with a man in the center on one side of the net.
An outside hitter, and a right side hitter are at the other side of the net as well.
The outside and right side hitters should be right at the net.
The man on the other side launches balls at them repeatedly.
The outside and right side hitters block appropriately.
Run drill for 5 minutes at a time.
You will need a lot of volleyballs.

A PASSING DRILL:
Three people lay on their stomachs side by side.
Someone serves a ball from the other side of the net.
The 3 people jump up and call the ball the person who calls it first hits the ball back to the person on the other side.
This helps with speed, and obviously with passing.

A SETTING DRILL:
You must do this where there is access to basketball nets.
One person stands on the backside of the basketball net and tosses volleyballs to someone on the front side.
It is their job to 'set' the ball as accurately as possible.
Meaning, they must try and get the ball in the basket.
This is great for accuracy.

A SERVING DRILL:
Two teams.
One person serves.
If they miss, they have to go and lay on the other side of the net.
The other team then serves.
If the first team hits one of the players on the other side then that person comes back to serve.
The team left with all the people on their side is the winner.
It teaches discipline of serving.
